The Birth Of Madilyn at Maine Medical Center, Portland.
The birth of Madilyn is one that I will never forget, in part because it was the first birth I have ever attended other than my own. Paige and I have been friends for years, coincidentally when I moved to Virginia she also moved to a near by town and we stayed close. I knew when she told me that she was pregnant I wanted to be there to capture her birth.
One sunny morning we had been messaging back and forth about when we thought her little one would come. Still no signs of labor she told me. About an hour after she said that I got a message that her water had broken! It was show time. I waited until about 11 to head her way, when I got to the hospital page was sitting in the tub riding through every contraction. Kevin her partner had just ordered her some food. The room was calm and we chatted for a little bit while Kevin fed her spoons of Cottage cheese.
As the contractions picked up Paige decided it was time for an epidural so she slowly made her way from the tub to the bed using Kevin as support. When I arrived back in the room after the epidural Paige was relaxing and in far less discomfort than before. Just then the nurse knocked and explained that Paige had visitors. The room filled with Paige’s loved ones. Her Mom, Dad, Siblings and best friends came in to visit her.
As Paige progressed it became clear that her baby was in the occiput Posterior position or face up making it difficult for her to descend into the birth canal. After a few different position changes nothing seemed to be working, Paige had been dilated to a 7 for quite some time now. The Drs informed page that the next option was c-section. Paige said good bye to her mother and friends as they prepped the OR. Kevin stayed by her side comforting her until it was time for her to go. After she left the nursing staff got Us some Hospital gowns to wear and we waited until it was clear for us to go back.
As soon as we entered the room Kevin ran to Paige’s side reassuring her that everything was going to be all right. Baby Madilyn was born healthy and happy. Kevin was so alighted he couldn’t stop watching his baby girl. He held her hand and studied her every feature. Paige was quickly back on her hospital bed and holding her baby girl. The love these two share for each other and their new little girl is incredible.
Baby Madilyn Rose Laughlin was born on August 1st, weighing 7lbs 6oz. A happy and healthy baby girl.
