Baby Rowan's Birth Story | Norway, Maine
There is nothing more empowering than walking into a hospital and greeting a mom who has already been laboring for hours.
When I arrived to Norway Hospital Catie and her husband, Matt, were laughing and enjoying the company of family. Jumping, laughing and playing around the room was Declan, an energetic little man patiently waiting on the arrival of his brother.
Just about an hour before I arrived Catie had her water broken in hopes of progressing a bit further. Around midnight contractions had started to pick up and become more intense. Matt stayed behind Catie, rubbing her back and helping her breath through every contraction.
The waiting room was full of stories, snacks and laughter as Declan tried to get some sleep before his brother came.
After the placement of Catie’s epidural she felt like something had changed and that baby Rowan was a lot closer than we thought. She had progressed from 4cm to 10cm in less than an hour! Catie began pushing while laying on her side where she felt most comfortable.
After about 30 minutes of pushing Rowan made his way earth side covered in vernix! Baby Rowan was 7lbs and 6oz and perfectly healthy! Matt and Catie were so overcome with love at the sight of their little boy. He was beautiful. Rowan had no trouble rooting around and latched on within the first hour he was born. Congratulations, Catie and Matt!
